Reading tools and Techniques

<<Overall>>
  • Reading consists of three passages.
  • Passage 1(14 m.n), Passage 2(21mn) Passage 3(25mn)
<<First paragraph>>(14 mn)
  1. Spend 2 mn to read the paragraph(Paragraph 1(about what?), Paragraph 2(about what) and Paragraph 3( about what):
  2. Skimming technique:  looking at the title, introductions, and any diagrams and sub-headings, then skim reading to get a clear general idea of what the text is about. Example 2, start at the beginning of the reading and glide your eyes over the text very quickly.do not actually read the text in total. You may read a few words of every paragraph, perhaps the first and last sentences. Read the couple of first sentences.
  3. Start answering by look to the instructions (Ex no more than 2 words)
  4. Read the first question and Identify Key Word
  5. Scan the passage 1 and looking the answer
  6. From Skimming we may able to identify at lest 60% which paragraph contain the answer than move your eyes to that paragraph
  7. As soon as your eye catches a key-word related word or phrase, you then slow down to read the relevant section more thoroughly. Don't stop if you find only one a since there will be more.
  8. If you cannot find the answer, don't guess this time and move the next question and do the following questions from step 4.
  9. After you finish all question in Paragraph 1, do guess on the question you don't know the answer
<<Strategy for the Match Heading>>
1.Read the instruction (eg. heading can be used more than 1)
2. Cross out the example answer
3. Read all the list of heading and select the most two similar meaning to the main idea that you noted in the first time.(This means Key Word Matching)
4. Cross x all options that already answered
5. If you cannot find the answer not yet guess. Wait until you search all question in this section, then do it as fast possible.

<<Strategy for True/ False/Not Given>>
1. True( The statement clearly appears in the text), False( the statement opposites in the text), Not given (the statement can't determine either True or False in the passage)
2. Read the instruction and then identify keyword
3. Decide and locate the answer in each paragraph
4. Match the Key Words
5. If you cannot find the answer not yet guess. Wait until you search all question in this section, then do it as fast possible

<<Strategy for Multiple Choice>>

1. Read the instruction and  question
2. Determine the keyword
3. Decide and locate the answer in each paragraph (use the flow)
4. Match the Key Words
5. If you cannot find the answer not yet guess. Wait until you search all question in this section, then do it as fast possible

<<Strategy for Gap Filling>>

1. Read the instruction and  question (Maybe one word only). Choose from the list or from the text
2. Determine the keywords and paraphrase and find the clue by define the part of speech
3. Decide and locate the answer in each paragraph (use flow)
4. Match the Key Words, after you answer read the hold statement and analyze the logic and cross out the selected words
5. If you cannot find the answer not yet guess. Wait until you search all question in this section, then do it as fast possible
